Welcome.

Hello and welcome. I’m so glad you have found your way here. I’m Laura Jayne, and Everything Haunted is a space for me to gather, explore, and share stories about the things that have always fascinated me: ghosts, hauntings, and the lingering echoes they leave in the world around us.

I’m currently working on my Master’s dissertation where I’m exploring how ghost stories (specifically in film and television) can offer more than fear. I’m interested in the ways that hauntings can bring comfort, connection, and even healing in difficult times. For me, ghosts aren’t just reminders of what is gone; they’re symbols and reminders of what remains — the traces and memories that shape who we are.

I love ghosts in all their forms: the tragic, the mischievous, the wistful, the tender. From the classic flicker of candlelight in a haunted house to the quiet presence that stays with us long after a loss, I find something endlessly moving about the ways ghosts cross boundaries between the past and present, life and death, imagination and memory. My work (and this blog) is about reimagining those encounters, listening for what they reveal about us, and looking at what they return to us in their own unique way.

I live in Whitby, a place that feels perfectly attuned to these interests. The town itself is steeped in atmosphere — the Abbey ruins high on the cliffs, the sea mist rolling in and out, the sense that stories are always waiting just around the corner. Living here feels like being in conversation with the past. The gothic and the ghostly aren’t just aesthetic touches; they’re part of the air. It is the ideal place to think about how the supernatural lives alongside us, quietly shaping the way we see the world.

Everything Haunted will be a home for thoughts, discoveries, and reflections that arise from my ghostly research and my life here by the sea. Some posts will be about films and television, others about stories, places, and histories that linger. It is a project that evolves daily, like any good haunting, but at its heart it is about finding hope and meaning in what the dead leave behind.

So thank you for being here. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, I hope you will find something here that speaks to you — something a little haunted, and perhaps, a little healing too.
